When I got Mikki she had her dewclaws still. I didn't even know it.
I took her in for her spay and the vet called me. He highly recommended having them removed so I did it. He also told me about the risk of injury and them growing into their skin as well and infections. So I made the call to get rid of them. It was easier because we did it at the time of spay. However, per my vet's recommendation, I would have done it even if she wasn't getting spay. I am glad that we had them removed and don't have to worry about them.
