I sure don't know the answer to that but a friend of mine just went thru an awful time with her yorkies foot - it looked like RAW Hamburger from what they thought was an infection ...after many trips to the vet....turned out to be microscopic mites -
Where is this staph infection on your yorkie ? Is he he on Antibiotics ?
