I take lots and lots of pictures to get really good ones. For every 50 pictures I may get one or two good ones.
I also have found a treat helps me to get their attention. Which helps me to get them to look at the camera. Lighting is an issue for me. Seems like I am either too light or too dark. So I think a lot of it is just practice practice practice. And take lots and lots of pictures each time. Good luck!!
