Okay...lol. Peek A Poo has cataracts...he's had them since I adopted him when he was 5 years old from the Humane Society. He's 15.5 years old now. My vet asked how long he had been blind (at 5 years of age).

He never bumps into things, and when he wants to go out he will find me and watch my eyes till he sees that I see him and then he runs to the door. He still does this. So anyway, after researching cataract surgery, it was $3000 for both eyes, but only a 50% success rate. With those odds and knowing he has vision enough (or more) to navigate, I opted out of getting him the surgery.
So 3 years ago I put all my dogs on coconut oil... just too many benefits to list... but one, in humans, is that it is believed to dissolve kidney stones. I realize that it is a hugh leap to calcification of the cornea, but why not? Anyway, I swear the cloudiness is reduced, where by rights after this amount of time he should be totally blind.
Then there's Tinkerbell, the failed Liver Shunt Surgery dog. Her problem ended up being sludge in the Gall Bladder and she took meds to correct that. The vet said she would always produce bladder stones, and would need surgeries for the rest of her life to remove them. Also on her Ultrasound, two vets identified kidney stones. I doubled her dose of coconut oil immediately. No kidney issues were found during her LS surgery, and it's been a year now since then and she has yet to show any signs of having bladder stones.
Is this all the result of the coconut oil? I have no idea. But I will never stop giving it to them.
