Current research is now indicating it is best to wait until after the first heat....this allows for certain hormones that are now being found to be beneficial to proper and complete development of bones, teeth, heart, vascular system, and even areas of the brain and emotional development, to take place. This research has shown that the benefits for waiting to spay until after the first heat faw out weigh the incidences of the risk of development of mammary cancer. I have always told all my new parents it is perfectly OK to spay before a heat cycle....I am now re-assessing my teaching.... |
