What you're wanting is a visor cut. I comb down the portion of the bangs I'm needing to cut. Holding the hair with my left fingers, positioned up above the eyes, I cut in a more or less straight line (slightly curved towards the sides) My shears are the curved ones, so the curve is not something I have to create. I use my fingers as a guide just like your hair stylist does cutting your hair.
