I have been sewing for quite a while. I have tried storage containers,under the bed boxes, cardboard boxes marked with a list of what is in it. My current form of storing fabric is a bookcase. I put all of my plain pastels in a stack,darker plain fabric in a stack,holiday fabrics in a stack,tiny print (doggie dresses) in a stack,and large print in a stack. When I cut things out I put EVERYTHING for a project in a gal ziplock (it can be used over again),I can add any special idea notes to the bag as well. This way I can lay everything out and cut out for an entire day and then sew when life allows. You can even stack the project bags on a shelf. I can always see quickly what I have so I dont purchase what I dont need. I also keep my patterns (about 40yrs worth) in a file cabinet (craft,doggie,childrens,mens). |
