I leave my Shoes out and available to my two all the time.
At one time, yes, there was a problem, but an appropriate scolding, and handing your Dog what he can chew on, is the way I taught mine to be selective. They still have Shoes to chew on, but only the ones I allow.
So, ok, put them up during your absence, during the training, but...
If you keep them put up, then you'll never know your training is working.
It is well within the capacity of a Yorkie, to be taught selectivity.
