Maybe you could call some Vets. and ask if they know of anyone who may have a recently deceased pet and are looking for another. I would be very careful with rescues because some are only out to get them for free only to sell them. I also wouldn't call that breeder. Sounds like she would demand he come back to her, then she could sell him all over again.
Is it possible you could just get a behaviorist to help the two dogs get along?
