It's a double edged sword. I do use dog parks but only very specific ones that I know well and know the users of. If there is someone I don't know there, I go in without the dogs and feel them out before I bring my dogs in. Some are better then others. Even though there's many close I drive quite a ways for the one I'll take my dogs to. It is good socialazation and exercise of you have a small yard or live in an apartment - I think allowing appropriate oppertunities and places for some off-leash time is healthy for any dog, that said you have to know how to make sure the environment is as controlled as possible.
