I would also keep it tethered to you and the dog by a plastic tie out leash. If you tip you don't want to be separated especially if there is a current, also you don't want him to jump out. We have boat and I keep Lola on a cord because he she tends to get up on the bow and I am afraid she might jump out. I had a friend that was watching her when I was out of town and she jumped off his pontoon into the lake.
