Also even tho the vet is trying to get you motivated, i dont think that is a good way to do it by saying they are going to turn you in. We have alot of overweight dogs who come to our clinic and we try alot of other things to motivate, but never do we threaten to turn some one in for their dog being obese. |
I am sorry, but I really have to agree with Farley....instead of threatening to turn me in for animal cruelty, (especially in light of what the family has just been through!!) I would have appreciated some good sound advice, that makes sense! Something like, "Since he has been mistakenly over fed by more than twice what he normally gets, go back to 1 cup a day! Kind of limit his exercise for right now, since he is high risk for heart attack....after he drops down on that scale, his exercise level can increase safely". If you do want to put him on a calorie control food, I use Royal Canin Pro- calorie restricted, that comes from my vet. It is excellent, and I supplement her at night with about 1/4 cup + 6 green beans....Yes she is still hungry, and I feel horrible, but she is FAT, like me, and we BOTH HAVE TO SUFFER!!!!!
