I'm sure one speed is fine. My Flexcare has(among others,) a "sensitive" setting and a "go clean" setting, both of which I use but probably aren't needed.
I use the SENSITIVE every day and the GO CLEAN after vacations when I need to remove some build up because petsitters were not as diligent as I am.
