We find snake skins in our yard, and I have seen large snakes, thankfully not poisonous. No copperheads yet. I always remind dad to use tools rather than hands to clean out under shrubs.
I feel your frustration over all the threats to our little ones. One of the many reasons my boys don't get to enjoy off-leash time in the backyard is we have a huge hawk living in our trees. He was sitting on the lawn this week.

Our neighbor's Yorkie was attacked by hawk, and the only thing that saved him was a little bit of extra weight. The hawk came very close to tearing through his diaphragm.
