Buddy sounds such a sweet little thing, and he deserves all the care and attention you lavish on him. You are right they are such devoted little dogs all their life's and they are so cherished you want to keep them forever and as long as they are not in any pain that's fine.
We have gone through this twice and it is heartbreaking at times but they never cease to amaze you with their love and how they cope just so they can be with you. Good luck with everything and keep us posted on how he is doing.
