Keeping it trimmed will help a lot, it's much less likely to get caught on things. Ask your vet about it, it no longer is simple surgery it has to be done the first few days and if done later the dog has to be under anesthesia. As BabyGirl Rosie says, it's usually harder on them then the spay surgery, but that's a good time to do it, if your vet thinks it should be done.
