I am assuming he is registered with AKC? I would suggest you go to some UKC shows. There every handler is and owner handler, as pro handlers are against the rules.
You can bring your pup with you, and watch the Yorkies in the ring, and talk to some of the exhibitors.

You will need to grow out his coat. That will take at least one year. As the coat gets some length to it, you will need to wrap the coat to protect the coat from breakage.
