Oh, I've heard about their prey drive, too. I did actually speak with the volunteers about that. I guess they're all cat/small doggie tested and all dogs in the adoptive family's household must meet the greyhounds before they allow an adoption. I grew up with weimaraners who are also not supposed to be good with small dogs or cats, but we always had small dogs and a cat and they did just beautifully. My brother had a weimaraner with his yorkie and they were best buds up until the day his weimaraner passed. Obviously I'd never leave a big dog alone with mine unsupervised.
I don't know that I'd ever actually get one, but they were just lovely dogs. This was my first encounter with them in person and I was just so impressed. For being such large dogs, they weren't really "big", if that makes sense. They're just very tall and elegant. |
