What a wonderful update! The fact that she can walk again, to me, means the surgery went really well! I'm so glad she's doing so well. As far as the crating, when my daughter's yorkie had a disc problem, we could take him out to be on our lap and just not let him move around. That would sure help the poor girl and shorten the time spent in the crate. Does Lady jump a lot...when she is well? If so, they should probably try to limit that as that can be hard on the back and knees. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
