Vaccinating my puppies I need some advice when it comes to vaccinating my puppies. My breeding bitch that I've waited for for five years is on her first heat and I am tying up loose ends so I'm ready when she has puppies at the end of the year (presumably).
I don't believe in over-vaccination and this includes any repeat vaccs or combo shots. In my country, rabies is mandatory every three years, so by law, I have to give my adult dogs that, even though one of them had a reaction to the last rabies shot.
I'm don't want to go into too much detail about over-vaccination, but if you're unaware of what I'm talking about, try a google search. Vaccines are active for the entire lifetime of our dogs and boosters have no effect on their immune systems.
Since my breeding dogs have had their vaccinations and will have their titers tested before breeding, I don't want to vaccinate the puppies at all until they leave for their new homes. Then, it's the new owner's decision whether to vaccinate the puppy, who is now big and strong enough to withstand the onslaught of the live virus.
I'd like to know if you think this is fair to the puppy buyer? It's the healthiest option for the puppies, so I hope so!
