Just a thought....
Did he have a shot recently? ZoE had a lump after having her rabies shot that I didn't notice until she yelped when I picked her up, but she didn't yelp when she moved on her own. Then I put her harness on & she yelped again. That's when I felt all over the area and found a lump about the size of a nickel under her skin from where she had the shot. I drove right to the vet, he checked her out & gave her a pain med and told me to gentley massage the area each day. It went away in a little over a week.
