I thought the term "red legged yorkie" mean a dog whose coat stayed short, it was also wiry, but breeders used them to bring back the darkness of the saddle. I've heard that they no longer use them, there are other ways to bring back the darkness in the saddle. Silky coats do grow very slow and are beautiful when they do grow in, could you be thinking of that? Or am I confused?
