It's sad but some of the pet smart groomers don't seem to know how to do anything but shave a dog down. I suppose a lot of people only take their dogs to the groomer when they need to be cut down so maybe they just assume that everyone wants their pet shaved.
I guess how long it takes to grow back depends on how long you want the fur to be. If you want a really long coat it could take a while. A long coat requires daily combing but if grooming is done on a daily basis it is much easier on you and your pet. He will get used to sitting still for you to comb and brush him and you will be able to do it much more quickly because there will be no mats.
Look around for a new groomer and ask for references. Ask if they know how to do the various cuts that are usually done for a Yorkie and ask if they will do what you request them to do for you. I have left specific directions of what I wanted done to my dog only to pick her up and find they did the exact opposite. Needless to say I never went back there again. A good groomer should have no problem doing what you request as long as you bring them a dog that has been groomed regularly. I can understand the groomer shaving where there are mats but they really should have checked before they cut him all the way down. Guess he's going to need a sweater for a while. |
