Our little rescue girl Loleta had really super thick hair. We kept her in full coat with tummy shaved made it a breeze to care for. If she got tangles I always keep a bottle of conditioner and water mixed up to spray on for brushing and I would just spray a little extra there and it brushed right out. I think she had a modified coat because her little rear end would always be curly.
