Sounds like you are doing everything right, it's amazing how much they change the first couple of years. Cotton coats grow out and they actually grow faster than silk coats, however they are so much work and the cotton isn't as strong a hair as the silk, so it breaks off easier. Silky coats are slow growing, but so much easier to maintain.
