Experts say it makes sense: the more fur, the more upkeep, the more money.

"We see a lot of standard poodles," said Marcia Zuger, kennel manager at Applewood Pet Resort in Paradise Valley. "That's a really high-maintenance dog to have. There's a grooming commitment."

The resort caters to the pampered pet, offering suites with color televisions, a bone-shaped swimming pool and frozen yogurt treats. Zuger said some poodle owners bring their dogs to the beauty parlor every week.
