My husband just mentioned some problems his brother is having with his older (not super old) large dog. I think it is hip problems but he had also started having trouble with urinating in the house. I think of the incontinence variety.

They apparently fed him too much people food which has a higher sodium content than dogs should have. The sodium of course caused fluid retention. They changed his diet and the peeing got much better.

I don't know if this applies to the OP, but it might help somebody out there. Just another reason to watch what we feed them.
