I first had car seats for them but they kept going over the sides and we would have to pull over to put them back in and out they would go again. Then we got the look-out bench, but each time we would have someone else in the car, we would have to take the bench out and put it in the garage. I finally got smart and got the Pet Auto safety Restraint straps and they are great! I can even safely put one up front because they are low enough that the air bag wouldn't hurt them if it inflated. Even if someone else picks me up to go to the park or Vet., I just grab one of the straps. Quick and easy.
