I know exactly what you are saying too. My Mylee had the FHO surgery (twice) for HD. My vet didn't give us much hope she would ever use her leg again, much less normally. However, today unless you know, you'd never know she didn't have her hip joint. She carries her leg some when she runs, and she can't bare the weight (sit up purty) standing on her back legs for more than a few seconds, while Moka can sit like that all day. But she still knows what it means and she still tries to do it, bless her heart. I know that look you're talking about. I also feel lucky despite her issues. She's my baby.
