I don't really have any advice on the Crates.....
I bought this Suite Retreat in the Medium/Large size.... I put Riley's bedding and toy area on one side and a peepee pad with a peepee pad holder on the other side. He trained to the pad very very quickly. I put it next to my bed in the bedroom.... Never had any problems.

At only 8-months he had full run of my bedroom, night and day... and about 9-months had full run of my whole place!! He's been soooo Good!!
