Lyme Disease Hi All,
It's been a while but need some advice on Lyme Disease.
Jackson had been feeling very tired, not eating, and was not himself. We went to the vet and had his bloodwork done. The vet also did a SNAP test and he came back positive for Lyme Disease, Ehrliciosis, and another tick illness. He was negative for heartworms.
Jagger was then tested and came back positive with Lyme Disease only, negative for everything else.
They have just finished a month's worth of Doxycycline, and are doing better. Jagger was asymptomatic, and we would have never known her was sick, if his brother hadn't been. Jackson still is not a big eater, but isn't as tired as he was, and is doing more. It's a shame and so sad to know they were sick for so long.
We were told they would probably show up positive for their lifetimes, but have no experience with this disease in dogs.
Since having the boys, we have had them on flea/tick medications but have just switched them to Trifexis, which they are loving. Their previous owner didn't use any products like these, so low and behold, sick Yorkies.
Has anyone else experienced this with their Yorkies? Does the lyme disease show up consistently or do they need the doxy repeatedly? We have also switched them to a bland diet along with their Science Diet as they experienced side effects from the medicine. They are doing better since being off the meds though.
Thanks,
Mel |
