The dosage for benadryl is 1 to 2 mg/pound (usually closer to 1mg/pound). 1ml per pound is a very high dose.
Unless it's an emergency, I would let the vet figure a dose for your pup (and not all vets like it for allergies). The pills are pretty easy for dosing. The liquid requires some calculations. It's best if the vet does it.
