Maybe so. However, the pet that once at least had a home with food now gets dumped on some dead end road or left at an already over burdened shelter. There are no easy solutions when a family is having a hard time feeding it's members. While pet lovers who have a regular paycheck coming in can easily say they would never do that, there are a lot of people who will make the hard choice to part with Fido when they are struggling just to put food on the table. There are people out there who have lost their ability to keep their homes much less their pets. It's easy to judge when you are not in that situation.
