It is still important to measure out her food each time. That is the only way to tell exactly how much they've eaten, even when one free feeds. Also, if she's getting more than recommended on the bag, she very well may be eating too much, and may gain too much weight, which can then put undue stress on their joints.

Also with dry food, a dog or puppy may gey really hungry and decide to eat too much food, then they get thirsty and take a big drink. The food in their tummies will overexpand with all the water and can create problems and require a visit to the vet, or even surgery.

With small breed dogs, it is also important that their carloric intake is spread out throughout the day, again to avoid hypoglycemia.

Can you tell, I've been there, done that? Lol!
