In my experience, many dogs may bark some or even quite a bit out of nerves at the new sounds of a new home and then go quiet for a time, not really becoming a normal barker until they begin to "own" or feel as if their home and immediate property is theirs. Once a new dog accepts his surroundings as his own territory, he will usually begin to defend it by barking. Other, more nervous dogs will bark at almost anything from the beginning and from then on.
