When I got Romeo we trained him to use a wee pad in just one day. However, I'd often find "mistakes" on the throw rugs. I picked up all the throw rugs and left the floors bare (hardwood or granite) for at least a couple months and then one by one slowly introduced rugs again. That cured Romeo of "mistakes". Not sure if this would work for you but give it a try.
