My in-laws live in San Diego, but uh - well I probably won't want to raise my stress levels THAT high while he's away. I'm pretty sure they'll be making regular visits as their schedule permits, though.
The great thing about the military is that in times like this, the families really come through for you. We've told two of our friends who live here on base and both husbands are already offering to mow the lawn, pull weeds, etc. It helps put your mind at ease, if nothing else. My parents are also planning now to come for a visit from Nebraska during the summer.
Living on base, you're pretty self-sufficient, (we have a gas station, grocery store, schools, liquor store, wal-mart type store ((bx))) and there are two cities really close (Lompoc and Santa Maria) that have pretty much everything I could want besides outlet shopping
So, I'm sure we'll be okay. It's just the shock of "Oh honey - I'm sorry but they are sending me away for 15 months. And we'll get hazardous duty pay!" -- that last part can't help but get to you, you know?
You guys are the best - I'm sure you'll be seeing much more of me when he leaves...is that even possible?
