Our township committee / not our towns people have voted to cull (kill) the geese in our town. Their plans are to wait until around August during molting season when the Geese are the most vulnerable / unable to fly and then pay the USDA $6,000 (wasted money) to round them up and one by one cram them into make shift gas chambers on the back of trucks and gas them. It takes upwards of an hour or more of suffering before the geese will die if they go first round. This was done in Mount Laurel, NJ and the mayor said he'd never do it again. It did not solve the issue. The following year more geese were back. It was done in NY and it did not solve the issue. More geese came back. It's not only squandering of money but it is also inhumane. It's teach our youth that it's ok to kill someting to solve a problem. It's not ok. We need to teach our children how to co-exist with wildlife not destroy it. I'm asking my Yorkie Friends to please help us let our town know that killing geese is not acceptable and it will not solve the issue. More humane solutions are available, but they have failed to do their research. One of our committemen even suggested, that if a rescue group could relocat them that they would also require the birds be neutered and their wings clipped. That shows how much research has really been done. Neutere a bird? If that were possible don't you think parrot rescues world wide would be doing it prior to adopting?
