Oh, my goodness, your Bruno had a very, very close call! I always watch Tibbe like a hawk when he is outside due to any number of awful things, including dog-theft, that can happen to a small dog left outside to his own devices. That is I always watch Tibbe except on one recent occasion and it could have been disastrous. My Tibbe was out in the backyard and I thought I would let him stay and enjoy the lovely weather while I rushed indoors to the bathroom, which I did, literally taking no more than 120 seconds since I was rushing so. But when I returned to the backyard Tibbe was gone! After about 2 - 3 minutes of total panic, I found him out front along the side of the house and I realized he got out of the back yard via a place that was so small I would have bet anyone money that he could not EVER have gotten through that tiny space. So these little guys can't be left out unobserved at all - not even 120 seconds - since they are consummate escape artists! There are any number of other scary to dangerous to deadly things that can happen to them so I just would never leave a little dog outside unobserved for even 15 seconds after what I went through with Tibbe recently. Another time, just a few weeks before I got Tibbe, my neighbor's large Pitbull jumped into my yard! I looked outside as she was coming over the top of the fence and had a small little aggressive terrier had been there, a horrible outcome could be expected. Another neighbor's 15 lbs. cat used to stalk little 5 lb. Tibbe when I first got him and before Tibbe was secure enough to start to "police" his own premises. That big cat jumped over the fence more than once with me standing right outside in the yard waving my cane and shouting "No" and I immediately started for it, screeching at the top of my voice and ran off every time. Later, Tibbe got more bossy and decided no cat was going to stalk him and he flexed-up on the cat with vicious growls and mean, mean barking and he stalks it back through the fence, his little neck arched in fine terrier fashion and now that cat runs from Tibbe whenever he growls/barks or comes near the fence. But before Tibbe "grew up", that cat could have seriously hurt Tibbe if I hadn't been outside and watching it.
That being said, I am so thrilled for you and Bruno that that car didn't mortally wound him I can't even put it into words! What a blessed little boy he is to have come so very near to an awful death or worse - a mortal wound and had to lie horribly wounded in the road for who knows how long. The thought of what he escaped just gives me the shivers. And then to be able to find him after those 3 days is another absolute miracle. You are so blessed to have Bruno back and he looks like a little doll in his new hair cut! Enjoy your baby now that he's home and thanks for the post - it is yet one more reminder of how close we have to monitor these little guys to keep them safe. We can't let down our guards for even a few moments.
