Sounds like this little boy hasn't had much regular exposure to good long nature walks and is really just so overstimulated by all the experiences and smells he's near to doggie nirvana. Then, with all that excess stimulation still circulating through his whole system, when he's brought indoors, he's still "jacked up" and does what he can to wind down. Sounds even like he's hoping to locate some of those wonderful odors and smells in the house, since he's still not that familiar with it. Or, the in-house activity could be totally related to the itching or discomfort he is having from the contact making the red spots. Likely it is a combination of both. Good for you for giving him a loving home and a chance to get to enjoy the outdoors and great exercise in the process.
It does sound like he's got some type of reaction to a plant or some type of bug bite he got while glorying in nature's wonders but don't think all of his post-walk activity is totally related to that. Hope the vet can treat it successfully and remove anything that might be stuck under the skin and that your little guy gets to continue his fun outdoors. He sounds like a typical terrier!
