I have never heard of bread being an issue.
Our vet told me to feed ZoE bread, after she had gotten into some Kentucky Fried Chicken that a kid visiting had left sitting out on an end table. It's supposed to help pass sharp objects, like cooked chicken bones.
I hope Petey makes a full recovery
