It seems to be a common trend to think that way. I once stood in a pet store and a woman who was holding a tiny "designer" puppy told me she knew it came from a puppy mill but that it needed a good home.
No responsible breeder sends their puppies to a store at 6 weeks of age and lets someone else sell them to the highest bidder. Puppy mills sell those pups for $100.00 to 200.00 a pup and then the pet store pops up the price from there. Where I live they get most of their pups shipped from the mid west. How on earth does a Yorkie puppy from the mid west end up being ready to be sold in a pet store in the north east at 6 weeks of age? It's cruel.
Newspapers and radio should be outing these people on a daily basis. It would be so easy to do. Just educate the public. Now people love to go to pet shops and see the cute puppies but maybe if people knew the truth about puppy mills they would change their minds. You have to have a really hard heart to run one of those places. |
