Aw, that's got to be pretty frustrating for the little guy but sadly it is the way of Mother Nature. I think it really helps their overall well-being to remove this constant frustration from them and just let them "be". To me, they get to enjoy more of their lives when they are less mating-oriented and just allowed to be a dog. Not to say it's not scary when you leave the vet the morning of surgery but really, it is a very safe surgery now days.
