Hadn't had Chef Boyardee Ravioli since the 1970's I think, so I recently bought some and yesterday started to pop the tab to the easy-open top when there was a terribly loud sound of concussion and the can exploded right in my face! The top apparently shot right by my face so fast I never saw it but I sure felt the burst of air accompanying it - and in an instant my face and chest, arms and surrounding kitchen cabinets were covered in much of the contents of the can. I stood there stunned for a couple of moments, afraid to open my eyes, which I didn't know I'd closed, but I felt a huge blob of something wet on the closed lid of the left one - and wetness on the rest of my face. I prayed it wasn't blood - and thank God, it wasn't - only part of the little pies. I found the lid clear across the kitchen where it had flown from the power of the blast. Tomato sauce and pieces of little pies had gotten into my hair and all over my clothing and clean up took forever!
From now on, I think I will be extremely cautious when I open one of those pop-top, easy-open cans. I can't help but wonder, if I'd had that can slightly tilted toward my face when I opened it, if that sharp-edged lid wouldn't have torn right into it or an eye!
