It may take some time for both you and Julian to figure out the potty thing. I would start with the basics.
After he eats or drinks he goes out.
When he wakes up he goes out.
Walks on his leash.
Lots of praise when tells you he has to go (special good boy treats).
Personally I crate trained also but I am not sure that is an option (I liked it myself).
