Your mom might like to pick out her own puppy though. Or she may want to decide for herself if she wants to take on a shelter or rescue dog vs a puppy. Both are things that require some insight and consideration.
It may be fun to hand her a cute little puppy but if that puppy comes from a background that could have health or personality issues the whole thing could backfire.
I kind of agree with this. It's a big decision that can last 15-20 years so I think she should probably choose it. It's considerate of you to think of that. Maybe go the route of purchasing the books, supplies, etc first?

Also I recommend an older dog or one from petfinder as they will be a lot easier on her than a puppy
