My father loved Beagles. I found an excellent breeder, who was highly recommended, who had several beautiful litters of adorable babies, different ages....only problem was they were about twice what I had saved up to buy him a puppy with. So, I gave him a birthday card with a picture of a rabbit in it...wrote a note that said "I was going to get you a rabbit, but I didnt think mom would approve of a hutch in the den....so I have selected another gift for you, all researched and highly recommended"...then on the back, I put 4 pictures of the 4 litters the breeder had. My father had a fit over the babies, I told him they were more expensive than I could afford, but I wanted to give him all I had saved toward the puppy.....he loved the gift, he said the research and foot work I had done to assure he had a healthy baby was worth at least a thousand dollars (my sweet daddy would say something like that!), we drove to get the baby he selected himself from the litters, and he paid for the puppy, and let me pay for the bed and toys, etc....and we brought Sparky home. Daddy treasured Sparky until dad died 6 years later from lung cancer. Sorry I rambled on and on.....memories. Point being, maybe you could do something like this for your mom. |
