Had the same problem. Our family fix was I used velcro strips and stuck them to the door. Used a "sample" carpet piece I got from Home Depot free and put the back of velcro on the carpet. Stuck the whole piece to the door. No..it isn't pretty but no scratches on the door. When carpet gets old or velcro quits holding I change it out with new. All the dogs have outgrown the door scratching but the pup. Hopefully we can get him through it and take the carpet down. Its really ugly, but it saved my doors and cost next to nothing!
