I think he has decided that anything that goes wrong with the house, it's my responsibility to tell him, and if he doesn't do it, to follow up with him, and then to give up and call a handyman in, to do stuff.

Don't feel bad. A few years back I got my hair chopped off, took off over 6 inches, BIG change. Two weeks later he still hadn't noticed. I honestly don't think he ever would have but I stopped at his work to say hi and one of the girls there said how much she liked the cut and he turned around and said "did you get your hair cut?"
