7 years and one I have only had for less than 2 months...that one has already cost over $8000 - I am not saying this to brag, I am saying this because this is exactly what can happen...having a pet can and often does cost alot of money, emergencies cost mucho dollars....
eta: I do this because the each time the problem was curable, and while my girls have had alot of problems - their quality of life has always been wonderful....I love my pups..
